Ashish Ranjan, an engineer from Patna, embarked on an unconventional journey, leaving his job to start 'Online Cake Bhejo.' His venture, specializing in customized cakes and millet-based bakery items, has achieved remarkable success, reaching a turnover of crores. Discover his inspiring story.
It doesn't matter much whether the work is small or big. But if your way of working is out of the league, then you get both money and fame. The same happened with Ashish Ranjan of Patna. He was doing a job after getting an engineering degree. Had to leave the job after my mother's health deteriorated. Returned home and started an ordinary business 'Online Cake Bhejo' in an extraordinary way. Today his annual turnover is Rs 1.5 crore. His startup makes cakes and bakery items from millet (coarse grains).
Returned to Patna due to mother's ill health
After graduating in engineering in 2012, Ashish started his career with an MNC company. However, some papers for the academic year were pending. In 2014, he was in Delhi. Meanwhile, information was received from home that his mother's health was not well. She had a brain hemorrhage. Hearing this, he returned home. However, despite treatment, Ashish's mother could not be saved. After his mother's death, he did not go back to Patna but decided to do some work in his city. But now the big question was what to do.
This is where the idea of starting a startup came from
In 2017, there was a birthday party at the house of a friend of Ashish. The demand of the friend's family members was for a customized cake. He went to many markets to get such a cake made. But could not find any shop making customized cakes. That's where Ashish got the idea to start a cake business and in 2018, he borrowed Rs 20,000 from his father and started a cake business. He also took his friend Buddhisen Bittu along. They started making customized cakes on people's demand and named their startup 'Online Cake Bhejo'.
Started making cookies from millets in 2021
Ashish's customized cake-making startup was going on. But he was not very happy with it, as he was not able to earn much profit in that work. Meanwhile, in the year 2019, his father also passed away. After that Ashish started getting upset. Hearing the discussion of millets i.e. coarse grains in the year 2019-20, he planned to make cookies. Learned cookie making from an agriculture university in Bhagalpur and started work in 2021.
Employment to more than 50 people
Now his startup has taken off. Has given employment to more than 50 people. The business of 1.5 crores was done in the year 2023-24. They make cakes, breads, buns, pastries, and cookies from millet, jowar, and ragi. 3 outlets are running in UP and 6 in Bihar.
