Hyderabad: Arpita Roy’s story stands as a perfect example of courage and perseverance. After a tragic accident, she lost both her legs and found herself in the wheelchair. Rather than viewing it as a weakness, Arpita transformed her adversity into strength, and emerged as a self-reliant and empowered woman.

Who is Arpita Roy?

Arpita Roy lives with her parents and a brother in Hyderabad. In the year 2006, she lived in Kolkata with her family. She was riding her bike to buy groceries from the market. An unfortunate incident altered her life completely. Arpita met with an accident during an earthquake and received permanent injuries in her legs.

Arpita shares that at the time of the accident, she could not comprehend what had happened. People took her to the hospital, and she received timely treatment. With the financial support of her brother, the sole earner in their household, Arpita underwent surgery abroad after a 12-day struggle to gather funds. Due to gangrene, she had to spend four months in the hospital. Despite the difficulties, she expresses gratitude for the emotional and financial support she received during that challenging time.

A new challenge

The doctors at the hospital and her family encouraged her to look at the brighter side of things. She gained confidence in herself because her loved ones believed in her capabilities. With some care and determination, Arpita took her first steps with prosthetic legs. Following the doctor’s guidance to stand for an hour daily to maintain proper leg positioning, Arpita gradually embraced life with artificial limbs. In the year 2007, she found a job at a call centre, marking a significant start to her new life.

Becoming a yoga instructor

In the year 2015, Arpita started doing yoga and got involved in more physical exercises. Her dedication led her to master advanced poses, including headstands in just 4 years. By 2019, Arpita had mastered all yoga asanas, and she became a yoga instructor. She has around 25 students in her yoga class. Today, Arpita stands as a renowned yoga teacher and encourages other people to conquer over all the obstacles in life.
