Ahmedabad: Uday Singh Jadhav, an auto rickshaw driver from Ahmedabad, Gujarat, strives to make his passengers’ journey memorable. He provides his services for free and loves making interesting conversations with his customers. It is interesting to note that he keeps his customers entertained with the small library that he has installed in the auto. Moreover, he keeps water and food ready in case a passenger desires to consume them.
Uday Singh Jadhav’s background
Uday Singh Jadhav faced financial difficulties growing up. His father used to work as an auto rickshaw driver too and supporting a family of 8 members with such low income was difficult. Uday Singh decided to discontinue his studies to support the livelihood of his family. Initially, he worked in a garage for three years and then looked for different opportunities.
Support from NGO
Uday Singh Jadhav learned how to drive an auto from his brother. During the same time, he learned about an NGO, and intrigued by the impactful work, he volunteered there for two to three years. He shares that more than money, it is important to love and care about people. He adopted the motto ‘Love all Serve all’ and took the noble initiative of driving an auto for free.
Family’s concern
Uday Singh Jadhav started wearing Gandhi caps to make an impactful image about himself. His family expressed concerns that it was impractical to sustain the household. Uday Singh was of the belief that his actions were not only for personal benefit but for the greater good. With patience, he explained about his work to his family and gradually gained support from them. His wife even prepares breakfast meals and snacks for passengers to munch on.
Giving free auto rides
Uday Singh Jadhav does not charge any fare from passengers.
