Mayank Kundu, hailing from Karnal, achieved the position of SDM by attaining the 15th rank in the Uttar Pradesh Public Service Commission (UPPSC 2023). Earlier, in 2020, he secured the 55th rank in the UPPSC exam and served as the District Youth Welfare Officer. Mayank embarked on his civil services in 2017 and faced several challenges to achieve his goal.
Creating a balance
Mayank Kundu juggled between his full-time job and exam preparation. During his preparation, he was serving as the District Youth Welfare Officer and District Commandment PRD in Saharanpur. He expressed gratitude for the support he received from senior officers. Mayank mentioned that his competitive exam preparation spanned five years, enabling him to establish strong foundation. He utilized his free time at the office and focused on revising study materials frequently.
Educational background
Mayank Kundu completed his schooling from a convent school in Karnal. He pursued BALLB Honours degree from Punjab University, Chandigarh. He also earned an MA degree from Delhi School of Economics. He began preparing for UPSC and appeared for the exams three times. He even reached the interview stage twice but could not attain a rank. In pursuit of success, he shifted his focus to UPPSC.

His determination to persevere, despite challenges, remained steadfast. Furthermore, he also credits his family for providing crucial support.
Family’s support
Mayank Kundu hails from an academically inclined family. His father, RS Kundu, served as the principal of a PG College, while his mother, Nisha Kundu is also a retired teacher. His brother, Manish Kundu holds the rank of commander in the Navy, and his sister, Monika Kundu works as a scientist in a pharmaceutical company. Growing up, his parents fostered an environment of learning at home.
