Madhya Pradesh: IPS officer Manoj Sharma stood the test of time and with consistent hard work he managed to accomplish his dreams. It is truly incredible how strong a person’s resolve can be and how sheer dedication for their goals, helps them achieve the true bliss of success. Here is a story of toil and struggle that showcases the brilliance of human capabilities.
Who is Manoj Sharma?
Manoj Sharma is a resident of Bilgaon village in Morena, Madhya Pradesh. He completed his graduate degree from Laxmibai Government Inter College of Excellence, Gwalior. His father, Ramveer Sharma, worked in the Agriculture Department, and the family faced financial difficulties. He was not exceptionally bright in his studies and managed to clear class 9 and 10 with a third division. Manoj even failed in all his subjects except Hindi in class 12. During his UPSC preparation, he met Shraddha who soon became his source of inspiration and a motivating force to achieve his dreams.
Driving an auto
After initially failing in class 12, Manoj started driving an auto with his brother to financially support his household. He received support from his mother who helped him in buying the vehicle by selling her jewellery. Manoj wished to continue his studies, but the financial constraints made it challenging to afford the school fees. Unfortunately, the auto was seized by the police during an incident. Manoj presented all the documents but could not get his vehicle back.
Getting inspired
The next day of the incident, Manoj visits the SDM’s office with his brother to seek justice. There he witnesses the SDM efficiently working on his cases, and Manoj shifts his focus from his initial complaint to admiration for the officer. When asked about the purpose of his visit, Manoj expresses his aspiration to become Deputy Collector just like the SDM who was present there. Amazed by his zeal, the SDM suggests him to appear for the MPPCS exam.
Overcoming challenges
Manoj Sharma’s mother had given him Rs 2000 before he moved to the city for his exam preparation. As the funds dwindled, he found himself unable to afford food. He took up a job at a hotel where he washed dishes in exchange for meals. He even walked the dogs for people and earned Rs 400 per month for the work.
Becoming an IPS officer
Manoj appeared for UPSC three attempts but failed to clear them. He was left with his last and final attempt, and the thought that the opportunity would be taken away from him after his last attempt, filled him with anxiety. However, Manoj Sharma finally cracked the UPSC exam by securing 121st rank in his fourth attempt.
