The incident:
As reported by a popular website, it was on May 21 that the Uttar Pradesh police reached Ghana Khandi village of Saharanpur district of Uttar Pradesh.
They had gotten information about illegal cow smuggling.
As the police reached the spot and tried to catch the illegal smugglers, they fired at the police to escape from the spot.
The website adds that despite smugglers firing at the police, Vatan Kumar caught hold of one of the smugglers.
He was attacked with a knife three times. Later, the UP cops were forced to open fire in self-defence. In the melee, one of the cow smugglers was injured. The accused, who goes by the name Virasat was later taken to the hospital where he was declared brought dead, adds the website.
The injured constable Pawar was shifted to Dehradun’s Jolly Grant hospital where he is currently undergoing treatment.
Yogi Adityanath, after assuming office as the chief minister has dealt with cow smuggling with an iron hand.
Apart from his measures to tackle antisocial elements, he has also effectively dealt with the coronavirus pandemic. It is precisely for this reason that he earned praises from Pakistan as well.
At the same time, Maharashtra did not earn the same praise for its dubious handling of the issue.
