Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath has sent a stern message against adultery. Yogi stated that it will not be tolerated if anyone commits adultery and will meet the same fate as those who have been charged for instant triple talaq.

Lucknow: Yogi Adityanath, chief minister of Uttar Pradesh has sent out a stern message against adultery.  Speaking about his intolerance to adultery, he said, “If any Hindu married man cheats on his wife, then the man and the woman he cheated with will face the same music as that of those convicted of giving instant triple talaq.”

Yogi was talking about triple talaq wherein he said that in the past one year, as many as 273 cases were registered. He also promised that if any police is non-cooperative, then action will be taken against them as well.

He further stated that a new scheme should be introduced under which victims of triple talaq as well as women belonging to other religions, who have been deserted by their husbands should be identified and given Rs 6,000 per annum. The money will be given to them till they get justice.

The practice of instant triple talaq or talaq-e-biddat, hit the headlines in 2017 and a law was brought in making it a “cognizable and non-bailable” offence. It is also punishable with three years jail and a monetary fine.

The Muslim Women (Protection of Rights on Marriage) Act — also allows a woman who has been given instant triple talaq to move court, seeking “subsistence allowance” for herself and dependent children, as well as custody of minor children.
