In a controversial statement, AIMIM leader Akbaruddin Owaisi said that it was his forefathers that created Charminar and there was no need to show papers related to citizenship

Bengaluru: The issue is as simple as this: The Citizenship Amendment Act (ACC) as explained by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union home minister Amit Shah doesn’t apply to the Indian citizens at all.

But AIMIM leader Akbaruddin Owaisi, who is known for his rabble-rousing inclinations, made a statement which has the potential to widen the Hindu-Muslim schisms further.

He said, "There is no need to be afraid. Today, they are asking what does a Muslim have? I have this to say — you want to check my papers. For 800 years, I have ruled this country. This country belonged to me, belongs to me and will continue to be mine. My forefathers gave this country Charminar, Jama Masjid, Mecca Masjid, Qutub Minar. The Red Fort, on which the prime minister of this country hoists the tricolour, was also given to you by my forefathers. Do you want papers? Look, the Charminar is the biggest proof that my forefathers have made it."

Well, none disputes the humongous contributions that our forefathers have given us, irrespective of their religions.

The CAA, on the other hand, only hopes to give citizenship to persecuted minorities from Pakistan, Bangladesh and Afghanistan who have been residing in India before December 31, 2014.

The Owaisi brothers, on the other hand, are known to make such provocative statements.

Earlier, his brother Asaduddin Owaisi had said, "Jat Agitation: ₹2000 cr property damage, Dera Sacha Sauda case: Property worth ₹128 cr damaged in Panchkula, Patel stir: 660 police vehicles & 1822 govt buildings damaged, Any recoveries for these? The key accused in Inspector Subodh Singh’s murder are out on bail. No badla?"

This reaction was in response to the Yogi Adityanath government’s move to send notices to Muslim youths who had resorted to vandalism in the name of anti-CAA protests in Uttar Pradesh.
