A youngster by the name Draz had been incarcerated in Pakistan as he had hoisted the Indian tricolour, in an act of hero-worship of Virat Kohli

Bengaluru: India has always been a big brother. Anyone, who wants refuge in this holy land can come without fear and lead their lives in accordance with the Indian Constitution.

However, if you shift the gaze to our neighbours Pakistan, it is a gory story!

Two years ago, when the Indian cricket team toured Australia (2017), its captain Virat Kohli was in rich form. As he continued to plunder runs in Australia, there was a young man in Pakistan, who couldn’t help but be in awe of him.

Profoundly influenced by the genius of Virat Kohli, he openly admired him, and in a moment of exaltation, even hoisted the Indian tricolour on his rooftop.

Draz, the man in question, was arrested because of his act, which the authorities saw as an act of sacrilege.

Moments after he had done it, the police raided his house and confiscated the tricolour.

Probably, the authorities were led to believe that he was an Indian sent to their land for the purpose of carrying out espionage.

As he was pulled up, he unhesitatingly expressed his love for Virat Kohli. He had said, "I am a big fan of Virat Kohli. I support the Indian team because of Kohli. Hoisting of Indian flag on the rooftop of house only shows my love for the Indian cricketer.”

The condition of minorities in Pakistan, especially Hindus brings tears to your eyes. Hindus are disenfranchised, extorted and asked to lead lives of second-class citizens. Hindu girls are raped and converted and sometimes, killed as well.

That is precisely the reason why the Narendra Modi government enacted the Citizenship Amendment Act to allow persecuted non-Muslims of three countries – Pakistan, Afghanistan and Bangladesh – are given citizenship if they had entered India before December 31, 2019.
