At a rally in West Bengal, CM Mamata Banerjee said that BJP was trying to take away the citizenship of legal citizens by introduction of the CAA.

Bengaluru: West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee has lied yet again! In her anti-CAA rally, she said that the CAA would take away the citizenship of many.

During the anti-CAA protests, Mamata Banerjee said, "We will have to use binoculars to see where BJP is, other than Karnataka, Gujarat and Uttar Pradesh. BJP is planning to take away the citizenship of legal citizens. I would appeal to everybody to join hands against the BJP and isolate them everywhere."

The chief minister also said peaceful protesters are being termed “anti-nationals.”

"Whoever is conducting peaceful protest is being termed as anti-national. I will not stop my protest until CAA is withdrawn. I will not stop my protest till the CAA is withdrawn. Just ensure that your names are there in the voters' list. The rest will be taken care of by me. No one will have to leave this country."

Time and again, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union home minister Amit Shah have reiterated that the CAA is not a ploy to take away the citizenship of anyone, but to grant it to the persecuted non-Muslims of Pakistan, Afghanistan and Bangladesh. The Act enable these persecuted non-Muslims to who have been staying in India hitherto December 31, 2014 to avail the one-time offer.

It is also being argued that Muslims in countries which have declared Islam to be their official religion can’t be persecuted religiously. But the anti-Modi gang wants to stitch a different narrative, saying the BJP is violating the Indian Constitution which preaches equality for all, irrespective of their religions.

However, the concept of intelligible differentia, gives the licence to the government of the day to positively discriminate in order to bring the less fortunate to the mainstream.

Presently, the CAA is sub-judice. As many as 60 petitioners have approached the top court, which will begin hearing the case from January 22.
