Bengaluru: Munmun Sarkar, a 49-year-old lady from West Bengal, has converted her e-rickshaw into an ambulance for the sake of corona patients.

She provides free rides to the patients on a 24-hour basis and even drops them back.

"Last year during the time of COVID-19 pandemic, ambulance drivers were taking too much money from the family members of the COVID-19 patients. At that time I decided to turn my e-rickshaw into an ambulance and started ferrying COVID positive patients in free of cost," she says as quoted by ANI.

"While ferrying the COVID patients to and from the hospital, I realized that sanitization is important to combat COVID. Then someone gifted me a sanitizing machine, making my work easier. I want to do something that will be remembered even after I die, " she adds on the issue of sanitizing the homes of the affected and also other places like police stations.

Meanwhile, in a televised address to the nation, PM Modi announced that the Centre would buy vaccines and distribute them to the states.

These vaccines will be administered free of cost to those aged 18 and above.

And for those who wish to get inoculated at private hospitals, the Centre has made it clear that they would have to pay a sum of Rs 150 as service charge, over and above the cost price of the vaccines the hospitals would have bought.

As far as kids are concerned, the trails are going on and are expected to end in time frame of 6-8 months.

India started its inoculation drive in January. Prioritizing  it,  the vaccines were given first to health care and front line workers, after which, those senior citizens with comorbidities were asked to take the jab.

It was in the month of May that the drive was thrown open to those aged 18 and more.
