In a tweet, Member of Parliament, Rajeev Chandrasekhar urged National Commission for the Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) to intervene and ensure justice is meted out in the case that deals with the brutal rape and murder of the minor siblings in Kerala's Walayar.

Palakkad: Two years after two minor girls were brutally raped and murdered in Attappallam, Walayar, Kerala Police is all set to file an appeal for the acquittal of the accused in the case.

According to reports, Thrissur Range DIG S Surendran said they have sought legal advice in this regard.

On the other side, the mother of the deceased girls reportedly claimed that she no longer has faith in the police investigation. Even though the parents witnessed the elder girl being sexually exploited by one of the accused, no action has been taken, she said.

In a court hearing, the parents also alleged that the accused have CPM connections. However, CPM district leadership demanded a detailed investigation in this regard.

Responding to allegations raised by the mother of the victims that the accused had links with the ruling party in the state, CPM Pudussery area secretary Subhas Chandrabose said that the accused had no links with the party and also remarked that CPM did not intervene in the investigation in any way.

Party district secretary CK Rajendran in a press note said that it should be examined whether the possibility of an acquittal was the result of lapses on the part of the prosecution or in the investigation.

The police said they would file an appeal as soon as a copy of the verdict in both cases are received.

Taking to Twitter, BJP MP Rajeev Chandrasekhar called on Union Minister for Textiles and Women and Child Development to intervene and said that it was a clear case of political and prosecutorial coverup of crimes.
