Ques 1- Has 18 always been the minimum age of voting in India?
Ans- No, it wasn’t. Previously, the minimum age for voter registration was 21 years of age. In the 61st Amendment Act of the Constitution in 1988, along with Act 21 of 1989 amending the RP Act 1950, the minimum age for voter was changed. The change came into effect on 28 March 1989, and from then on 18-year-old adults could also register themselves as voters.
Ques 2- I recently attained the age of 18. How can I get enrolled as a voter?
Ans- If you have attained the minimum age required as a voter, you can submit Form 6 to the ERO. Please submit proof of your date of birth such as Passport, class 10 certificate, or any other valid proof of age.
Ques 3- Can a person who is not a citizen of India become a voter?
Ans- Only Indian citizens are eligible to be registered as voters. The Article 326 of the Constitution, along with Section 16 of the RP Act 1950, declares that a non-citizen of India cannot be registered as a voter.
Ques 4- Is it possible for someone to be enrolled at more than one place?
Ans- According to the provisions outlined in Sections 17 and 18 of the RP Act 1950, a person cannot be registered as a voter in more than one place. Doing so may be considered illegal. A person cannot own two voter cards within the same constituency or in more than one constituency.
Ques 5- How to get registered in the Electoral Roll?
Ans- To register as a voter, procure Form-6, and submit it to the Electoral Registration Officer (ERO) of the Assembly Constituency.
Ques 6- Can I make the corrections in details if they are misspelt in the Electoral Roll?
Ans- To make the corrections to names or other details, you need to submit Form-8 to the ERO of the Assembly Constituency. Take a look at the following forms for different purposes:
• Form 6: For inclusion of names
• Form 7: For any objection on inclusion of names
• Form 8: For correction of entries in the Electoral Rolls
• Form 8A: For transportation of entry in electoral roll
Ques 7- Can I get registered as a voter if I do have a ration card? What other documents can I submit?
Ans- Please note that it is not necessary to have a ration card for voter registration. You can submit any other proof of residence, such as a Passport, Bank Passbook, Driving License, or any other Government document.
Ques 8- How can I get registered as a voter if I am tenant, and my landlord does not give approval to support my documents?
Ans- It is the statutory right of every citizen of India to enrol in the voter list. Please visit the Electoral Registration Officer (ERO) or Assistant Electoral Registration Officer (AERO) officer. If your name is not included in the list, submit Form 6 to the ERO.
Ques 9- Recently, I changed my residence. How can I get myself registered at the new Assembly Constituency?
Ans- If your new residence is in the same constituency, then please fill Form 8A. For a new address in a different constituency, fill Form 6 and submit it to the ERO.
Ques 10- How can I get a new EPIC card if I have lost my old one?
Ans- File an FIR and deposit a copy at the nearest Police Station. For getting a new EPIC card, deposit an amount of Rs 10 and your new EPIC card will be issued.
