Indian Union Muslim League MLA Parakkal Abdulla who moved the adjournment motion in the Assembly said that the CCTV visuals of the attack on Naseer clearly showed that CPM and DYFI local leaders attacked the victim. To respond to this statement, Kerala chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan said police would investigate the issue.

Thiruvananthapuram: For the second time in two days in the Kerala Assembly, the opposition staged a walkout in protest of the state government’s “improper handling” in the case of assault on COT Naseer, a former CPM worker.

On the first day of the state Assembly the opposition staged a walkout saying that the government had failed to give a deadline for the loan write-off.

COT Naseer, an independent candidate from Vadakara Lok Sabha constituency, was attacked by two unidentified people. As Naseer was heading back home at 6 pm on May 18 in his scooter, two bike-borne miscreants attacked him on Kayyath Road in Thalassery, Kerala.

Indian Union Muslim League MLA Parakkal Abdulla, who moved the adjournment motion in the Assembly said that the CCTV visuals of the attack on Naseer clearly shows that CPM and DYFI local leaders attacked the victim. He added that Naseer too, had stated that CPM's Thalassery MLA N Shamseer was behind the attack.

To respond to this statement, Kerala chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan said police would investigate the matter and did not comment on CPM's role in the attack.

Pinarayi Vijayan said the CPM harboured no anger or hostility towards COT Naseer, which was shown by P Jayarajan (the then CPM candidate in Vadakara) meeting Naseer in hospital.

Opposition leader Ramesh Chennithala also said that the leader’s visit to hospital was just to give an impression that they were not behind the crime.

Naseer quit the CPM in 2015. He grabbed headlines after he decided to contest against P Jayarajan in Vadakara. He sustained serious injuries from the attack and is currently undergoing treatment in Kozhikode Medical College. This is the third time Naseer has been attacked after he quit the party.
