Vikram Lander separates from Chandrayaan 2 orbiter successfully

The lander on the Chandrayan 2 mission is called Vikram, named after Vikram Sarabhai. He was an Indian scientist, physicist, and astronomer. He is also known as the Father of the Indian Space Program.


Chandrayaan 2,  India's second moon mission has successfully finished the last procedure, the separation of the lander from the main module.  Named after Vikram Sarabhai, the lander on the Chandrayan 2 mission is called Vikram.

ISRO took to Twitter to announce the separation of the Vikram Lander from the main module. They stated, "Vikram Lander Successfully separates from #Chandrayaan2 Orbiter today (September 02, 2019) at 1315 hrs IST."

According to ISRO, the Vikram Lander is currently located in an orbit of 119 km x 127 km. The Chandrayaan 2 Orbiter continues to orbit the moon in its existing orbit.

ISRO mentioned in its statement, "The Vikram Lander successfully separated from Chandrayaan-2 Orbiter at 1315 Hrs IST today (September 02, 2019). The Vikram Lander is currently located in an orbit of 119 km x 127 km. The Chandrayaan-2 Orbiter continues to orbit the Moon in its existing orbit.”

The health of the Orbiter and Lander is being monitored from the Mission Operations Complex (MOX) at ISRO Telemetry, Tracking and Command Network (ISTRAC) in Bengaluru with support from Indian Deep Space Network (IDSN) antennas at Bylalu, near Bengaluru. All the systems of Chandrayaan 2 Orbiter and Lander are healthy.

The next manoeuvre is scheduled tomorrow (September 03, 2019) between 8.45-9.45 hrs IST.
