A video has emerged in which Harsh Mander can be heard saying “Supreme Court has failed India’s minorities”.

Bengaluru: On Wednesday, the Supreme Court refused to lend its ears to social activist Harsh Mander’s lawyer as it saw a video in which he was heard saying “real justice will be done in the streets”.

Taking umbrage at the issue, the CJI-led bench ordered the counsel to come back with an explanation on the next hearing date and expressed its displeasure over doubting the top court’s integrity.
Now a video has emerged in which Harsh Mander can be heard saying “Supreme Court has failed India’s minorities”.

Not just that, he even made a reference to Ayodhya verdict, the abrogation of articles 35A and 370 and also on the issue of students approaching the top court in relation to violence in the universities.

The daring attitude of the social activist, who also happens to be a Sonia Gandhi adviser, is certainly not appreciable.

But we must add that he has had a history of casting aspersions on the integrity of the judges.

A case that comes to mind is how he had sought the then CJI Ranjan Gogoi to recuse himself in a case related to detention centre in Assam, citing Gogoi’s adverse views on the same during the course of hearing.

Taking umbrage at his views, the bench, headed by the then CJI Gogoi had ordered to remove his name as a petitioner in his own case.

Another instance that comes to mind is his rabid hate for the police. During one of his TV shows, he had claimed that the UP police had changed the slogan Jai Shri Ram while attacking students of a particular university.

Taking his ridiculous observation as the Bible, another Left-leaning journalist Rajdeep Sardesai had questioned other panellists on the show on the attitude of the UP police.

Harsh Mander needs to respect the highest court in the country and trust it.

Needless paranoia certainly doesn’t augur well for a democracy.
