Vaccination for people aged 45 years & more: India inoculates more than 36 lakh on April 1 alone

India vaccinated more than 36 lakh on April 1 which happens to be a record for a single-day vaccination 

Bengaluru: India on April 1, vaccinated more than 3 million people. It is a record in the sense that it happens to be the highest number of vaccinations till date in a single day.

As many as 36,71,242 Covid-19 vaccine doses were administered on 1 April, the health ministry data revealed. 

Out of these, 33,65,597 received the first dose of the vaccine while 3,05,645 were administered the second dose. 

It might be recalled that India allowed all over 45 years of age, irrespective of their health conditions, to get inoculated since April 1. 

While the vaccine drive goes on, India has exported several lakh doses of vaccines to several different countries. 

India is also testing a third coronavirus vaccine. It is expected that it will get the approval anytime soon. 

Incidentally, Prime Minister Narendra Modi got himself inoculated with Covaxin last month. Union home minister Amit Shah too took the jab, followed by vice president Venkaiah Naidu, Union health minister Harshvardhan among others.

India began its second vaccination drive on March 1. Those citizens who are 60 years and above and have comorbidities like diabetes and hypertension got the first preference.

Till now, India has vaccinated more than a crore people.
