Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana misused; 5,000 gas cylinders hidden under bushes recovered in Uttar Pradesh

The district administration along with police personnel raided Bhargav Gas Agency and found 4,912 gas cylinders hidden inside bushes at Pachperwa in Uttar Pradesh. A complaint has been lodged against gas agency convener Ram Gopal Tiwari and four others.
 

Balrampur: Malpractice has been reported in distribution of gas cylinders under Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana as 5,000 cylinders were found hidden in bushes at Pachperwa in Uttar Pradesh.

In addition to cylinders, two thousand regulators have also been found by police after a search was conducted over a period of two days 

A case has been booked against Ram Gopal Tiwari of Bhargav Gas Agency along with four others. District magistrate Krishna Karunesh has formed a committee to probe the matter and bring culprits to book.

These gas cylinders are said to be have been dispatched by Indane agency to be distributed under Ujjwala Yojana. However, the cylinders were allegedly being distributed among non-beneficiaries for a high price. The Bhargav Gas Agency has been accused of pocketing the subsidy amount too.

Police received information about the hidden cylinders after a media house reported the case. Based on the information, the district administration ordered

 

When questioned about the cylinders, Tiwari said that there was an accidental fire in the agency office where the documents were kept. He stated that all the documents have been destroyed and is therefore unable to present any records of the cylinders that have been seized.
