US President Donald Trump has blamed Black Lives Matter for the surge in Covid cases in the country

Bengaluru: US President Donald Trump has blamed Black Lives Matter for the surge in Covid cases in the country.

He said, “There are likely a number of causes for the spike in infections. Cases started to rise among young Americans shortly after demonstrations which you know very well about.”

“Which presumably triggered a broader relaxation of mitigation efforts nationwide and a substantial increase in travel.”

He also said, “Increased gathering on holidays such as Memorial Day, as well as young people closely congregating at bars and probably other places, maybe beaches, four or five listed places likely also contributed”.
The killing of African-American George Floyd by a police officer in the United States is an extrajudicial killing that has to be condemned.

People had come out on the streets and are holding massive protests in the United States. Even in India, an effigy of Donald Trump was burnt on the streets of Kolkata two days ago.

A note on instigation in India based on US protests:

Back home in India, there have been several calls by many intellectuals to have protests on the same lines as that of George Floyd.

For example, Vinod Dua, a left-leaning journalist, used this instance of killing to foment trouble in India.

In his talk show, he said, “We have religious hatred in India whereas in US, there exists hatred between races. 40 cities are under curfew in America. Lakhs of people have hit the streets. Some of them even turned violent. The large presence of protestors on the streets, in the US, exemplified the empathy and humanity in them. But Indians are unawares of their rights.”
