At a time when both, the Unnao rape survivor and her lawyer were airlifted to New Delhi’s AIIMS, to ensure better treatment for the injuries caused due to an accident on July 29, the Supreme Court has sought a status report from the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on the steps taken to ensure the teen’s safety.
Lucknow: The lawyer of the Unnao rape survivor, who suffered critical injuries in a car-truck collision last week, was airlifted to New Delhi on Tuesday following Supreme Court directives in this regard.
"The lawyer was sent to New Delhi by special air ambulance. He has left the Lucknow hospital, where he was undergoing treatment to the airport from where he will be taken to New Delhi for better treatment," the district magistrate said.
According to Lucknow hospital administration, the lawyer is not on ventilator but is still in a serious condition and is in "coma". The rape survivor was on Monday airlifted through an air ambulance.
The teen and her lawyer suffered critical injuries on July 29 when the car, in which they and two others were travelling in was hit by a truck in Raebareli. Two of her relatives were killed in the accident.
The top court had directed the CBI to shift the injured to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in New Delhi for better care, as she was still critical.
A Delhi court on Tuesday sought a status report from the CBI on steps taken to ensure security of the Unnao rape survivor, her family and witnesses.
District Judge Dharmesh Sharma also sought a report on the boarding and lodging arrangements made for the family member accompanying the critically injured survivor, who was shifted to Delhi on Monday night for better treatment.
The court is holding day-to-day trial in the case as per the directives of the Supreme Court.
It had on Monday directed expelled BJP MLA Kuldeep Singh Sengar, accused of raping the woman at his residence in Unnao in 2017 when she was a minor, to be shifted to the Tihar jail here from the Sitapur prison in Uttar Pradesh.
On Monday, both Sengar and his accomplice Shashi Singh, who had allegedly lured the victim into going to the legislator's residence, were produced in the court in compliance with an order by the judge. The court has also directed to shift Singh to Tihar jail.
The Supreme Court had last week ordered holding a day-to-day trial in the matter and completing it within 45 days.
