Unnao rape-murder case: Last rites of victim performed after police agree to demands of family

Unnao: The mortal remains of the Unnao rape and murder victim was buried on the outskirts of Hindupur village on Sunday (December 8). The victim was buried in a grave next to that of her grandparents.

The last rites were performed after police officials agreed to the demands of the victim's family. The victim's sister has demanded a government job for one member of the family, apart from a compensation of Rs 25 lakh given to the family and an assurance of a house under the Prime Minister Awas Yojna.

After battling for life at Delhi's Safdarjung hospital, the Unnao rape victim who was set ablaze while on her way to a court hearing on December 5 died at 11:40 pm on Friday, December 6.

On Thursday, the 23-year-old was airlifted from Lucknow's SMC government hospital to Safdarjung Hospital in Delhi.

According to police, five miscreants allegedly threw kerosene on the woman and set her ablaze when she was on her way to a local court for the hearing of a rape case she had filed in March.
