Unnao rape case: CBI raids 17 places in Uttar Pradesh’s four districts

Lucknow: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Sunday (August 4) conducted raids on 17 places in four districts in Uttar Pradesh in connection with Unnao rape case. The CBI raids were conducted at four districts Fatehpur, Banda, Lucknow and Unnao.

On Sunday, the CBI questioned accused Kuldeep Singh Sengar in Sitapur jail and recorded his statement. The agency will also record statement of the rape survivor's uncle who has been shifted to Tihar Jail in Delhi.

On July 28, a truck in Rae Bareli hit the car in which the Unnao rape survivor, her family, and her lawyer were travelling. In the incident, two were killed, and the rape victim and her advocate were severely injured.

The condition of the Unnao rape survivor and her lawyer is stable, doctors said in Lucknow. The doctor in-charge said, "The rape survivor's condition is stable, but still she is on ventilator support."

The CBI, which has taken over the investigation, charged 10 people for murder. This included BJP legislator Sengar, who is already in jail, charged with the rape of the Unnao teen when she was a minor in 2017.

Sengar, nine others and 20 unidentified persons were booked for murder by the CBI in the accident case. Sengar who is facing the investigation since last year was expelled from the BJP last week after Uttar Pradesh government came under criticism for not providing enough security to the victim.
