Two Indian Air Force personnel killed in Kashmir

Two Indian Air Force personel were killed and two others were injured in a road accident which took place in south Kashmir's Awantipora area of Pulwama district.

New Delhi: Two Indian Air Force personnel were killed while two others were injured in a road accident in south Kashmir's Awantipora area of Pulwama district.

The accident took place between 3 and 4AM on Thursday. The air force personnel were travelling in a Scorpio.

The police rushed to the accident spot after they were informed by Air force personnel.

According to the officials, the slain include a squadron leader. The accident occurred at Malangpora outside an air force station. The deceased personnel have been identified as Squadron Leader Rakesh Pandey and Corporal Ajay Kumar. Two other injured personnel -- an officer and an airman --  are admitted to a nearby hospital.

The IAF will conduct an inquiry into the accident.

Former Jammu and Kashmir chief minister Omar Abdullah extended his condolence to the victims' families and wished speedy recovery for the injured. He said "Very sorry to hear about the loss of lives in this accident. Condolences to the families of Sq Ldr Pandey & Corp Kumar, may their souls rest in peace. Prayers for the injured, hope they make a complete & speedy recovery".
