Twitter has withheld the account of former Amnesty India head Aakar Patel

Bengaluru: Twitter has withheld the account of former Amnesty India head Aakar Patel.

If one visits his page, one will be welcomed with the message, “Aakar Patel’s account has been withheld in India in response to a legal demand.”

It might be recalled that just a few days ago, an FIR had been filed against Patel for provoking and inciting Muslims, Dalits among others to come on the streets and protest.

He had derived his inspiration from the George Floyd’s protests in the United States.

He had tweeted thus: “We need protests like these. From Dalits and Muslims and Adivasis. And the poor. And women. World will notice. Protest is a craft.”

He was also referring to the protests at Colorado in relation to George Floyd’s death.

A complaint in this regard was filed by one Nagaraja on the grounds that he had incited people. Not just him, there were many others who had not taken kindly to this provocation by Patel.

Aakar Patel has been booked under IPC sections 505(1)(b) (with intent to cause, or which is likely to cause, fear or alarm to the public, or to any section of the public whereby any person may be induced to commit an offence against the State or against the public tranquility), 153 (Wantonly giving provocation with intent to cause riot) and 117 (Abetting commission of offence by the public or by more than ten persons).

In the name of protests over George Floyd’s death, there has been rampant vandalism across the United States.

Amnesty India is also under the scanner for its financial irregularities.

It might also be recalled that Amnesty was in the vanguard of protests against CAA and had called for rampant violence.

But it is to be noted that CAA is not a tool to snatch citizenship, but to grant citizenship.
