The Income Tax department has attached Sasikala’s properties worth Rs 1500 crore, under the Benami Act
Bengaluru: Trouble mounts for VK Sasikala, a close aide of former Tamil Nadu CM Jayalalithaa as the Income Tax department has attached her properties worth Rs 1500 crore, under the Benami Act.
Sources add that the department had found documents while conducting raids at properties allegedly owned by her and her relatives.
Titling the attachment process as Operation Clean Money, IT sleuths attached her properties located in Chennai, Coimbatore, Puducherry and many other places in Tamil Nadu.

As per sources, these properties were hidden by Sasikala and her relatives and not declared.
It is reported that Sasikala was quizzed by IT officials at Parappana Agrahara in Bengaluru, where she is serving her sentence related to the Disproportionate Assets case. The quizzing went on for two days and was held by 7 IT sleuths.
The sleuths had also conducted searches at her premises and her kin’s premises over suspected tax evasion in various cities, including Chennai, Hyderabad, and Bengaluru.

It’s not just the DA case in which Sasikala finds her name in a mess. She is also being probed for her alleged involvement in Jayalalithaa's death.
The Arumugasamy commission had written to the Karnataka Prisons Department and Home Secretary of the Tamil Nadu government to seek permission to question Sasikala. The commission which has already questioned 130 people, recorded Sasikala's statement in person, as reported by Republic TV.
It was in February 2017 that Sasikala was sent to Parappana Agrahara as the Supreme Court upheld her conviction in a DA case and sentenced her to four years imprisonment.
Sasikala, who took over the reins of AIADMK after the death of Jayalalithaa in December 2016, was later removed from the party by then-Chief Minister K Palaniswami-led camp. Her relatives Ilavarasi and V N Sudhakaran are also serving a four-year jail term in the case.
