In the Daulat Beg Oldie area of Ladakh, an Army Tank mishap claimed the lives of five Indian Army personnel, including a Junior Commissioned Officer (JCO) and four jawans. The event happened on Friday night during a normal drill including crossing a river; the T-72 tank unexpectedly came into high water.
The recovery of all five bodies has been verified by defense personnel. When the accident happened, there were five men inside the tank. Although one soldier has been located, searches are still being conducted to find the other soldiers.
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh extended his sympathies and profound sadness over the event. He expressed his sincere sympathies to the troops' families and thanked them for their outstanding service to the country. Mallikarjun Kharge, the president of Congress, too expressed his extreme sorrow over the deaths. He expressed his sympathy to the families impacted by the sad incident and praised the soldiers' bravery.
