Technician plummets from 15th floor during elevator maintenance work, dies

A man died after he fell from the 15th floor of building while he was conducting repair work of an elevator

Mumbai:  Ketan Bahirat (45) a worker who undertook maintenance work of the elevator in a residential tower in Chunabhatti area of Mumbai fell into the shaft of the lift from the 15th floor while conducting repair work and died.

The incident occurred on May 13 around 4pm, in tower number two of Continuum Complex, Central Garden also known as Reliance Building.

Fire brigade officers took Bahirat out of lift shaft and rushed him to the civic-run Sion hospital. He was declared dead on arrival by doctors.

Chunabhatti police station has deemed his death to be an accident and further investigation is pending.

A similar occurred on November 2018 when three law students from Symbiosis Law College in Hyderabad who lived in Silver Nest Apartment on MM Road in Frazer Town area of Bengaluru were left injured after a cable snapped and the elevator plummeted.

The owner of Silver Nest said that it happened when the students were returning to their apartment on the third floor.
