Andhra Pradesh's TDP worker Devibabu Choudhary filed a petition asking the Election Commission to stall the release of the awaited film Lakshmi's NTR
Amaravati: A Telugu Desam Party worker on Tuesday urged the Election Commission to stall the release of the Telugu movie Lakshmi's NTR as it could influence voters in the upcoming Lok Sabha and Assembly elections in Andhra Pradesh.
According to reports, TDP worker Devibabu Choudhary petitioned the poll panel and sought orders to stop the controversial movie which is scheduled to release on March 22.
The film is directed by India's well-known director Ram Gopal Verma
In his complaint Choudhary stated that the film is based on events that occurred in the state's former chief minister and party founder, NT Rama Rao's life during his second marriage.
Reports stated that the movie has portrayed TDP president and the state's present chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu in a negative light and could influence voters.
However, the Election Commission has forwarded the petition filed by the TDP worker to the state's Chief Electoral Officer to take required action.
The state Assembly and Lok Sabha polls in Andhra Pradesh is scheduled to be held on April 11 in the first phase of the seven-phase Lok Sabha elections.
The film Lakshmi's NTR is about NT Rama Rao's second marriage to Lakshmi Parvathi, TDP's landslide victory in 1994 elections and the revolt led by his son-in-law Chandrababu Naidu in August 1995 and NTR's death a few months later.
