Tamil Nadu police arrest man for posting 'objectionable pictures' with Tanjavur temple sculptures

Mujpur Rahman visited the Brihadeeswara Temple in Tamil Nadu's Thanjavur district on June 5 and posted pictures of him kissing and touching the sculptures of the shrine on social media.

Chennai: Trichy police, on Saturday (June 8), arrested 28-year-old Mujpur Rahman, for posting "objectionable pictures" of him with sculptures of the Brihadeeswara Temple on social media.

According to reports, a complaint filed against Rahman stated that the pictures that he had posted had hurt the feelings of Hindus. The complainant M Rathinavel, a resident of Trichy, stated that the pictures and the status posted by Rahman was objectionable.

Rahman, who works as a part-time food delivery agent, had reportedly posted pictures of him kissing and touching sculptures of women at the Brihadeeswara Temple in Thanjavur, Tamil Nadu. On Wednesday (June 5), Rahman visited the temple along with friends.

Rahman was booked under IPC sections 295 (A) (deliberate and malicious acts, intended to outrage religious feelings or any class by insulting its religion or religious beliefs) and 295 (injuring or defiling place of worship with intent to insult the religion of any class.)
