Tamil Nadu Police arrest 6 men for posing as cops, looting people

A special police team arrested six men in Tamil Nadu for posing as police officers and looting Rs 13 lakh from two Keralites 

Coimbatore: A special police have arrested six men in Coimbatore in connection with a robbery case. The six-member team posing as officials from the vigilance department looted Rs 13 lakh from two Kerala youths. 

The incident happened on July 17 when the two Kerala natives reached Coimbatore to buy gold ornaments. The duo was having Rs 13 lakh in hand to purchase gold. Meanwhile, the accused persons posing as police officers asked the duo to stop the vehicle and give the cash. They also asked the duo to produce proper accounts at a nearby police station and take back their cash.

Later, realising that they were cheated, the victims lodged a complaint with the police. A special team constituted went through the CCTV footage and tracked the accused and arrested them. 

The arrested accused are identified as Jaleel, Ajit and Aravindam from Kerala and Padmanabhan, Kamalesh and Natarajan from Coimbatore. Two cars valued at Rs 15 lakh and a sum of Rs 8.40 lakh were recovered from the accused. 

In a similar incident, sleuths of commissioner's task force, west zone team Hyderabad, arrested a man who allegedly posed as an assistant commissioner of police (ACP) intelligence and cheated people.

In another incident in Delhi, a man was arrested for posing as a police officer from Delhi's Karol Bagh area. The man identified as Hardik Kaushik was caught by the police from outside the Karol Bagh metro station. The police officers patrolling the area got suspicious after observing the accused's dressing style, his belt and shoes.
