Delhi lost 3 former chief ministers, Sushma Swaraj, Sheila Dikshit and Madan Lal Khurana in less than a year
New Delhi: With Sushma Swaraj's demise on Tuesday night (August 6), the national capital has lost three former chief ministers in less than a year.
Sushma, who was the chief minister of Delhi for a brief period from October-December 1998, passed away on Tuesday night due to cardiac arrest. The funeral will be held at 3 pm on Wednesday (August 7) at the Lodhi Road crematorium in Delhi.
Three-time chief minister and veteran Congress leader Sheila Dikshit passed away on July 20 this year due to cardiac arrest. She was admitted to Fortis Escorts Heart Institute, New Delhi, after she suffered cardiac arrhythmia. Top Congress leaders, including UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi and Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, were present at Sheila’s funeral.
Sheila and Sushma died in the span of one month. The mortal remains of former Delhi chief minister Sheila were consigned to flames on July 21, with colleagues, Congress workers and admirers braving heavy rains and gusty winds to bid her final farewell. He had suffered a brain hemorrhage about five years ago and was ailing since then.
Madan Lal Khurana, who was the chief minister from 1993-96, also passed away in October last year. Khurana was the chief minister of Delhi from 1993 to 1996 and was appointed the governor of Rajasthan in 2004.
