Senior Congress leader Abhishek Singhvi is all set to table a bill in Rajya Sabha that bats for strict enforcement of two-child norm with the help of incentives and disincentives
Bengaluru: In a surprising move, Congress’s senior leader Abhishek Singhvi is all set to table a private bill in Rajya Sabha that bats for strict enforcement of two-child policy with the help of incentives and disincentives.
He said, “Bill moved by me in the Rajya Sabha for enforcement of 2 Child Norm with incentives and disincentives for non-compliance.”
He also listed out the incentives for those who undergo voluntary sterilisation.
He said, “For married couples who live below the poverty line and undergo voluntary sterilisation/operation, I suggested that the Centre give them a one-time lump sum amount of Rs 60,000… if the single child is a boy or Rs Rs 1 lakh if the single child is a girl.”
And what about disincentives? Here are the details.
He said, “In the Bill, the disincentives for those who do not comply include barring them from contesting elections, getting promotions in government services, receiving government subsidy — barring those in the BPL category —or applying for Group A jobs.”
The endeavour to table such a bill, that too by a Congressman, seems very interesting.
But the senior leader, these days, has not minced words in supporting the Modi government when it comes to such issues.
A few days ago, he had extended his support to deport British Labour Party Member of Parliament, Debbie Abrahams.
He had then said, “The deportation of Debbie Abrahams by India was indeed necessary, as she is not just an MP, but a Pak proxy known for her clasp with e Pak govt and ISI. Every attempt that tries to attack India's sovereignty must be thwarted.”
Much earlier to this, he was one of the few Congressmen who had openly declared that opposing PM Narendra Modi unnecessarily may not bode well for the credulity of the Congress.
The other Congressmen who supported this move were Shashi Tharoor and Jairam Ramesh.
