Congress MP Sushmita Dev has accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP president Amit Shah of giving hate speeches and invoking the defence forces to gain political mileage during their campaigning for Lok Sabha polls

New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Monday agreed to hear a plea of Congress MP Sushmita Dev alleging that Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP President Amit Shah have been violating the Model Code of Conduct on Tuesday.

Dev has accused the BJP leaders of giving hate speeches and invoking the defence forces to gain political mileage during their campaigning for Lok Sabha polls.

A bench headed by Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi said it would hear the petition of Dev on April 30.

Senior advocate AM Singhvi, appearing for Dev, alleged that Modi and Shah have violated the Model Code of Conduct and the Election Commission is not acting on her complaint.

Singhvi said four weeks have passed since the Model Code of Conduct was enforced in the country and both the Prime Minister and Shah have been allegedly violating the code.

To this, the bench said it will hear the plea on Tuesday.

Congress on April 27 alleged that the state-owned power distribution company of BJP-ruled Assam is on a recruitment drive violating the model code of conduct (MCC).

Lodging a complaint with the Election Commission in this regard, state Congress general secretary Ranjan Bora said the Assam Power Distribution Company Ltd (APDCL) is set to organise the written examination for the recruitment on April 28.

Meanwhile, the Delhi unit of BJP has written to the Chief Electoral Officer of Delhi, demanding action against the Congress for allegedly violating the Model Code of Conduct.

Delhi BJP general secretary Rajesh Bhatia, in the letter to the EC on Tuesday, said he had seen two autorickshaws, plying near the India Gate roundabout, with posters promoting the Congress party, with the slogan, "Congress party se high-five".
