Security forces in Jammu and Kashmir’s Shopian district and terrorists have exchanged fire. The area has been cordoned off.
Shopian: An exchange of fire is underway between terrorists and security forces at Pandoshan village in Shopian district of Jammu and Kashmir in the early hours of Friday.
According to Jammu and Kashmir Police, the security forces cordoned off the area around the incident.
Meanwhile, a vehicle of 55 Rashtriya Rifle (RR) was targeted by an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) in South Kashmir’s Shopian district earlier today.
Two to three terrorists are believed to be holed up.
A joint team of India Army's 34 Rashtriya Rifles (RR),14th battalion of Central Reserve Police Force personnel (CRPF) and state police are at the encounter site.
Apart from minor damage to the vehicle, no injury or casualty reported following the incident. On July 31, two terrorists were gunned down by security forces in Kanzalwan village of Gurez sector.
This comes days after two Jaish-e-Mohammad terrorists were shot down in a gunfight with security forces at the Bonbazar area of Shopian on Saturday. A joint team of Indian Army's 23 Para and special operations group (SOG) Shopian had launched a cordon and search operation in the area. As the forces approached the location, terrorists opened fire on them, triggering an encounter.
