Sopore: A top commander of the Islamic State Jammu and Kashmir (ISJK) was killed by security agencies on Friday in an encounter in Sopore area of Kashmir.
The slain terrorist has been identified as Ishfaq Ahmad Sofi, who was associated with most-wanted terrorist Zakir Musa. Sofi alias Abdulla bhai was a commander of ISJK, an IS-inspired terror module.
Sources said Sofi was among the last few survivors of the terror outfit in Kashmir. He had joined Harkat-ul Mujahideen (HuM) in 2015, but later joined ISJK in 2016.
According to reports, the encounter broke out early in the morning after security personnel, patrolling in Amshipora - Ramnagari belt, noticed some suspicious movement near an orchard.
Recently, security forces killed Lateef Tiger, the only surviving militant of Burhan group. The encounter took place in Shopian district of south Kashmir.

Shopian is one of the worst violence-hit districts in the state, following the killing of Hizbul’s commander Burhan Wani in July 2016.
