Security forces gun down terrorist in Kashmir’s Sopore

According to officials, a cordon and search operation was launched jointly by police and security forces after they got a specific input about terrorists hiding in the area.

Srinagar: A terrorist was gunned down in an encounter with security forces in Sopore area of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district late last night.

As the search operation was going on the terrorist fired at the search team leading to an encounter.

The encounter broke out at 5:25 pm on Tuesday between terrorists and the troops of 177, 179 and 92 Battalion of CRPF, SOG Sopore, 22 Rashtriya Rifles (RR). 

It was on Wednesday morning that his body was retrieved from the site of the encounter.  The identity and affiliation of the killed terrorist are being ascertained.

Incriminating material, including arms and ammunition, were recovered from the site of encounter.

The police have requested citizens to stay away from the encounter site since such an area can prove dangerous due to stray explosive materials.
