New Delhi: An encounter broke out between terrorists and security forces in a forest area of Kandi in northern Kashmir’s Kupwara district on Thursday. This is the second encounter of the day. Earlier, three Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) terrorists was killed in Pulwama.
According to reports, a joint team of the Army's 47 Rashtriya Rifles, 28 Rashtriya Rifles and Jammu and Kashmir Police launched a cordon and search operation at the upper reaches of Kandi — Portel Nad and Razdan Nad — that connects the Lolab forests.
Heavy firing was underway in the forests as searches were launched.
The Army has relentlessly been carrying out operations to flush out terrorists in the Kashmir Valley post the February 14 Pulwama attack.

Khalid, a top commander of the JeM, was wanted in the 2017 fidayeen attack on a CRPF camp in Lethpora that left five paramilitary personnel dead.
During the encounter a civilian and an Army jawan was killed.
