New Delhi: AIMIM Chief Asaduddin Owaisi on Friday criticised Supreme Court for failing to appoint a neutral person as a mediator after he had a fall out with spiritual leader Sri Sri Ravi Shankar on Ram Janmabhoomi-Babri Masjid land dispute case.
Owaisi, referring to Ravi Shankar’s earlier statement on Ram Mandir, he said that the apex court should have appointed a neutral person as a mediator.
Shankar earlier said, “India will become Syria if Muslims don’t give up their claim on Ayodhya.”

Owaisi said that Muslims as a goodwill gesture should give up their claim on the disputed land and he expected that Ravi Shankar to act as a neutral person after this.
On February 8, The Supreme Court referred the politically sensitive Ram Janmabhoomi-Babri Masjid land dispute case for mediation by a panel headed by former apex court judge FMI Kallifulla and gave it eight weeks to complete the process.
The apex court said "utmost confidentiality" should be maintained to ensure the success of the mediation process and no media, neither print nor electronic, should report the proceedings.
Hindu bodies, except Nirmohi Akhara, have opposed the apex court's suggestion to refer the issue for mediation, while Muslim bodies have supported it.
The bench had concluded the hearing by asking stakeholders to give the names of possible mediators.
