Rajnath Singh: Pakistan cannot fight a full-fledged war with India

Defence minister Rajnath Singh was addressing Parliament on the 20th anniversary of the Kargil conflict. The House paid tribute to Indian soldiers who drove out enemy forces and reclaimed Kargil district.

New Delhi: Defence minister Rajnath Singh on Friday (July 26) said that Pakistan could fight neither a full-fledged nor a limited war with India and is waging a proxy war.

This comment by the defence minister came while he was speaking in Lok Sabha on the 20th anniversary of the Kargil conflict as Parliament paid tribute to Indian soldiers who drove out enemy forces and reclaimed Kargil heights.

Singh, in Parliament, said the bravery and sacrifice of soldiers could not be forgotten.

"Our neighbouring country (Pakistan) cannot fight a full-fledged war or a limited war with India. It is fighting a proxy war," Singh said.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and home minister Amit Shah were present in the House.

Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla paid tribute to soldiers who fought in the Kargil conflict in 1999.

Congress leader in the House, Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, said there should be a discussion on Kargil war.

In Rajya Sabha, Chairman M Venkaiah Naidu praised the courage and heroism of Indian soldiers and said that the nation would never forget their sacrifice.

Members stood in silence as they paid tribute to those who laid down their lives in the Kargil conflict.

Kargil Vijay Diwas is celebrated in India on July 26. In 1999, on this date, India successfully took command of the high outposts which had been lost to Pakistan. The war ended with no territorial changes on either side.
