The Indian Railways is building ramps quickly to help facilitate the movement of oxygen for the needy
Bengaluru: India is experiencing a second wave of coronavirus.
Indian Railways has helped deliver oxygen to the needy with the help of Oxygen express.
As reported by Swarajya, Western railways built ramps overnight at Kalamboli and Boisar stations to enable faster supply of Liquid Medical Oxygen (LMO) to Mumbai.
It must be noted that the railways jumped to the rescue of Maharashtra as Maharashtra government had requested the same.
“The ramp at Kalamboli was made overnight and is almost ready today and trials with tankers were conducted. These will be sent to destination stations, filled with liquid oxygen and sent back to Mumbai. Depending on the size of the tanker, one wagon could also take two tankers. One 32-car train can load about 32 tankers at one go. Each tanker can carry about 15-16 tonnes of liquid oxygen,” a senior railway official was quoted by the website.
The Oxygen Express will transport Liquid Medical Oxygen and Oxygen cylinders to states across the country that are facing a shortage.
Ramps were being built at Vizag, Angul and Bhilai.
To facilitate easy and smooth transport of oxygen across the country, a Green Corridor is being created. This will ensure fast movement of Oxygen Express trains and secure supply of medical oxygen in bulk and rapidly to patients.
On Sunday (April 18), Western Railway held a trial at Boisar, where a loaded tanker was placed on a flat wagon, and all the required measurements were taken.
Road tanker T1618 with a height of 3320 mm has been found to be feasible to be placed on flat wagons with a height of 1290 mm, taking into account the size of Road Over Bridges and Over Head Equipment at specific locations.
