Rahul Gandhi will be on tenterhooks as the supreme court is all set to pronounce its verdict in a case of contempt of court against him, in relation to the Rafale jets purchase

Bengaluru: Former AICC chief Rahul Gandhi will be praying fervently as the supreme court is all set to pronounce its verdict on the contempt case filed by BJP MP Meenakshi Lekhi in relation to the statement that he had made in reference to the purchase of Rafale jets.

The Gandhi scion had dragged the supreme court into the issue and said, “the court has accepted ki chowkidaar chor hai".

Within no time, Rahul Gandhi was in massive trouble as the BJP MP arraigned him. The top court too clarified that it had made no such statement.

The bench, headed by chief justice of India Ranjan Gogoi, and having justice SK Kaul and Justice KM Joseph, said “We never made any such political statement, and it was not for the court to make such a statement."

Fearing reprisal, Rahul Gandhi, through his legal team, submitted an affidavit to the top court, but he did not tender any unconditional apology for trying to colour top court politically. He also gave an explanation that his words were being misinterpreted. However, the court did not agree.

It was then that he gave another affidavit, detailing the usage of his words and tendering an unconditional apology.

Before CJI calls it a day on November 17, other judgements on important cases too are likely to be pronounced.
