The term PM-CARES Fund has seen a few complaining that it is a form of self-aggrandisement.
Bengaluru: Politics at the time of a national tragedy is the worst thing that can happen.
And that too, it is over a name!
While the Prime Minister created a new fund PM CARES to use the collected money to cater to the needs of the affected, there are a few who have nit-picked on the issue and feel the new name is a form of self-aggrandisement.
Noted historian Ramachandra Guha, on his twitter account, lamented thus: This is a very important thread. Why a new fund when a Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund already exists? And why the self-aggrandizing name, PM-CARES? Must a colossal national tragedy also be (mis)used to enhance the cult of personality?

As he exposed his hate for Modi, Twitter users were quick to point out that half the government schemes were named after Nehru family.
Idiot!
It is "PMCARES" not "MODICARES"
Forever it will belong to the PM at the helm - not like Jawaharlal this, Indira Gandhi that and Rajiv Gandhi the other!
Self agrandization?😤
PM CARES Fund stands for “Prime Minister's Citizen Assistance and Relief in Emergency Situations Fund”
Recently, actor Akshay Kumar had donated Rs 25 crore for the cause. Other celebrities too continue to pitch in.
But there is another politician who merits a mention here.
Shashi Tharoor, senior Congress MP questioned the very need of such a fund.
He said on his twitter account, “This is important. Why not simply rename PMNRF as PM-CARES, given the PM's penchant for catchy acronyms, instead of creating a separate Public Charitable Trust whose rules & expenditure are totally opaque? @PMOIndia you owe the country an explanation for this highly unusual step.”

Prime Minister is a master of mnemonics. He has termed several of his schemes with the help of catchy phrases. And that is how it should be. To reach the masses, you need simple language with a profound message. Else, everything goes over the head, defeating the very purpose of it.
