Without naming them, Narendra Modi promises to go after the scams of Sonia and Rahul Gandhi, Robert Vadra, the Chidambarams and others in election season’s biggest promise

New Delhi: PM Narendra on Friday spelt out what millions of Indians were waiting for long to hear from him. Speaking at a rally in Rohtak, Haryana, he said those who had looted the country would be behind bars if he got five more years in power.

The allusion was squarely towards the Congress’s ruling Gandhi family and seniormost leaders like P Chidambaram and his son Karti.

“Already those who looted the country are out on bail or being interrogated, trying to save themselves from the law. They are at the threshold of being served justice. If you vote me to power for five more years, I will make sure these high-profile looters of the nation are put behind bars,” Modi said to thunderous applause from the crowd.

A section of BJP supporters has rued the fact that despite grave allegations of scams and corruption, the Congress top brass have not been put behind bars during Modi’s first tenure as PM. Modi’s words come as hope and joy for them.

Sonia and Rahul Gandhi are already out on bail in the National Herald scam.

Chidambaram and his son are facing a gruelling investigation and interrogation in Aircel-Maxis and 2G scams. Karti was even arrested in the INX media case. Senior Congress leaders like Motilal Vohra and Bhupinder Hooda are also out on bail and are being investigated for the National Herald case and land grab respectively.

PM Modi’s proclamation today gives a strong hint that if he comes back to power, he would certainly take these matters to their legal and logical conclusion. The PM had earlier said in interviews and rallies that while his government was unrelentingly moving towards bringing scamsters to book, he didn’t want to force the legal process and be seen as someone carrying out vendetta.

His statement from Rohtak now reverberates as possibly the biggest promise this election season.
