New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday expressed displeasure with BJP legislator Akash Vijayvargiya, who had thrashed a municipal corporation officer with a cricket bat. The Prime Minister termed the act “unacceptable”.

The PM, during BJP's Parliamentary meeting, said that such behaviour is unacceptable irrespective of whose son he is.

Following a heated argument, Akash Vijayvargiya, the Indore-3 MLA and son of senior party leader Kailash Vijayvargiya, was recently jailed for thrashing a municipal officer, who was on an anti-encroachment drive.

A BJP lawmaker reportedly stated that the PM is very upset with Akash Vijayvargiya and that he has asked the party leaders to dissolve the local unit of BJP for welcoming Akash while he came out of jail.

The PM wants such leaders to be expelled from the party, reports stated.

While Modi demanded a thorough probe into the matter, he also reportedly said that those backing such behaviour should also be questioned. He reportedly advised party MPs to behave in a “responsible and cordial” manner.

Modi also warned MPs to dedicate their full time in the Parliament and raise issues related to the common man.

Akash had thrashed a municipal corporation officer in Indore with a bat and repeatedly slapped him on June 26. He was subsequently arrested for the act.

While narrating the sequence of events that unfolded before his arrest, Akash reportedly claimed that certain Congress legislators were demolishing buildings in Indore with the connivance of municipal corporation without consulting him.

The MLA also claimed that the officers did not wait for proper investigation, but sent “goons” to evict people from the building that was going to be demolished.

Akash was released from jail on Sunday and was garlanded by his supporters.

After his release, he reportedly said that he is not guilty or embarrassed about what he did as it was done in public interest. He said that he couldn’t think of doing anything else after seeing a woman being being dragged brutally in front of the police. He added that he hopes not to have to pick up the bat again.

As Akash walked out of prison, his supporters fired celebratory gunshots.
