Over 33 lakh doses given in 24 hours; cumulative vaccination coverage exceeds 11.44 crores

The cumulative number of COVID19 vaccine doses administered in the country has crossed 11.44 Cr

Bengaluru: As India battles second wave of covid, it has also managed to vaccinate 11.44 crore, says a statement from the ministry of health and family welfare. 

It should be noted that the Tika Utsav which was observed from 11th to 14th April 2021 has given a boost to vaccination activities across the country. 

The release adds that the Tika Utsav saw a jump of 1,28,98,314 vaccine doses being administered to people of the eligible population groups across the country.

These doses were administered through 16,98,138 sessions. The ones administered include 90,64,527 HCWs who have taken the 1st dose and 56,04,197 HCWs who have taken the 2nd dose. 

In just 24 hours, over 33 lakh vaccination doses were administered.

Remdesivir injection to cost under Rs 3,500; production to double

Days after the Union government banned the export of Remdesivir, approvals have been given for stepping up Remdesivir manufacturing capacity to around 78 lakh vials per month. Remdesivir manufacturers have also volunteered to reduce the price of the anti-viral drug to less than Rs 3,500 by the weekend.

Curfews in place: 

Though Prime Minister Narendra Modi has ruled out any prospects of a lockdown, several states in the country have imposed curfews to tackles the rising cases. 

In Karnataka, the government has imposed a night curfew from 10 pm to 5 am.
