Hyderabad: A 26-year-old resident of Kukatpally, who is a senior recruiter at a placement consultancy in HITEC city, lost Rs 15 lakh to an online scammer. The victim has lodged a complaint with Cyberabad Police.

In January, the victim was approached by a man called Arjun who claimed to be an employee at 1xbet.com. Arjun advised the victim to bet money online on various sports matches to earn easy money.

The victim also received an email from a man named Rudra who asked him to open an account with the website and they would transfer money to a nationalised bank.

The victim then deposited Rs 15 lakh in the account provided by strangers. When he did not receive any return for his deposit, he lodged a complaint with Cyberabad Police, who registered a case and began investigation.

In another recent online fraud case, a 55-year-old man from Pune was cheated of Rs 1 lakh. The victim booked round trip tickets from Bengaluru for his wife on an online travelling website. He later received a call from a man who claimed to be the company’s official. When the victim checked his account later, seven transactions were made and Rs 99, 999 was debited from his account.
