Nirbhaya rapists to be hanged tomorrow (March 20) at 5: 30 am after President Ram Nath Kovind rejects second mercy petition of Pawan Gupta
Bengaluru: In spite of taking advantage of all the loopholes in the Indian legal system and earning more days to live, Nirbhaya convicts will be finally hanged tomorrow at 5: 30 am, as scheduled.
The finality of the hanging was ascertained after a curative petition filed by one of the convicts Pawan Gupta was rejected by the Supreme Court. President Ram Nath Kovind too has refused to entertain the second mercy petition filed by Pawan Gupta and Akshay Kumar Singh,
A Delhi court has also averred that the convicts have used all legal resources available at their disposal.
"No legal remedies are pending as of now. Pawan and Akshay's second mercy was also not entertained by the President of India," Public Prosecutor Irfan Ahmad told the court.
For the fourth time, a Delhi court had issued a fresh date for the execution of Nirbhaya rapists.
The move came a day after President Ram Nath Kovind rejected the mercy petition of convict Pawan Gupta.
In all, there were six men who were accused and convicted of gang-rape. While one of them was a juvenile at the time of crime, he was let off after he served a three-year term at a juvenile home.
Out of the remaining five, one of them committed suicide, leaving behind Pawan, Vinay, Akshay and Mukesh to face the trial.
The heinous crime dates back to December 12 when the victim and her friend were travelling on a Delhi bus. The convicted people pounced upon her and unleashed unthinkable brutality, ultimately killing her.
Though she was flown to Singapore, the treatment did not fructify.
Incidentally, the lawyers of the four convicts have also approached the International Court of Justice, seeking a stay on the execution.
Meanwhile, the wife of Akshay Kumar has filed for a divorce.
