NIA defuses plan of Sri Lanka like bombing attacks in India

New Delhi: A suspect who was allegedly recruiting youth for an Islamic state in India has now been traced by the National Investigation Agency. 

The NIA has also registered a case against a Coimbatore man who was recruiting Indians to plan an attack in India like the Easter bombings in Sri Lanka that led to the deaths of more than 250 people.

NIA sources claim that the arrested suspected has been inspired by ISIS ideologies. Raids are underway in 8 locations in Coimbatore.

"NIA has filed a case against a Coimbatore based suspect, who is inspired by the terrorist outfit Islamic State. He was recruiting men for attacks in South India," NIA sources said.

A two-member team of the agency also went to Sri Lanka to hold discussions with authorities about a probe in the Easter Sunday bombings over claims that some terrorists, owing allegiance to ISIS, had travelled to India, including Kashmir.

The team is led by Inspector General Alok Mittal, who has probed various ISIS-related cases in South India, including a conspiracy by the terror module to kill prominent leaders. 

During investigations in the Easter bombings case, the NIA had alerted the island nation that ISIS terrorists were planning to carry out strikes there.

India had been regularly sharing intelligence inputs about a possible terror attack in Sri Lanka targeting the Indian High Commission and religious places.

The inputs to Sri Lanka were sent through diplomatic channels after a thorough investigation pertaining to the ISIS case in Coimbatore was carried out by the NIA. A charge sheet has also been filed against seven people.

 Nine suicide bombers, including a woman, had carried out a series of blasts in Sri Lanka Churches in which 253 people were killed on April 21.
