NPCI’s new FASTag rules, effective August 1, 2024, require updated KYC details, correct registration linkage, and improved vehicle identification for enhanced security and efficiency in toll payments.
The National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) is implementing new regulations for FASTag users as of August 1, 2024. These updates focus on Know Your Customer (KYC) requirements, enhancing both the efficiency of electronic toll payments and vehicle security.
Updated KYC Requirements for Existing FASTag Users
Starting today, all FASTag users are required to update their KYC details by October 31, 2024. This change primarily affects FASTags issued between 3 to 5 years ago. Vehicle owners with FASTags older than five years must replace them immediately. This update aims to ensure that all FASTag details are current and accurate, improving the overall functionality and reliability of the system.
Linking Registration and Chassis Numbers
To maintain seamless operations, vehicle owners must ensure that their registration and chassis numbers are correctly linked with their FASTag. For new vehicle owners, updating the car's registration number within 90 days is mandatory. This step is crucial for maintaining accurate records and ensuring smooth toll transactions.
Enhanced Vehicle Identification and Security
In response to security concerns, FASTag providers are now required to upload clear photos of both the front and side views of vehicles. Additionally, every FASTag must be linked to a valid contact number to ensure effective communication and timely updates. These measures are designed to enhance identification and security, making toll transactions more secure and efficient.
