The Supreme Court has taken notice of the controversy surrounding NEET-UG 2024, urging responses from the National Testing Agency (NTA) and the Centre. Allegations of paper leaks and irregularities in the June 4 results have raised concerns about the integrity of the examination.

Court's Response:
A vacation bench headed by Justice Vikram Nath declined to halt the ongoing counseling process but scheduled a hearing for July 8. The bench emphasized the significance of addressing the issues affecting the sanctity of the NEET-UG exam.

Ten NEET-UG candidates filed a petition seeking a stay on the results and a fresh examination. They expressed apprehensions about the credibility of the examination in light of the reported discrepancies.

Controversy Unfolds:
NEET-UG is a crucial examination for admission to undergraduate medical courses, with millions of students participating across numerous exam centers worldwide.

The NEET-UG tests have been marred by controversies this year, including allegations of paper leaks and faulty marking systems, sparking widespread concerns and legal actions.

Legal Proceedings:
Advocate Mathews J Nedumpara, representing the petitioners, highlighted ongoing investigations into the alleged paper leak by the Bihar Police. He urged the court to suspend the results until these investigations conclude.

NTA's Response:
Senior advocate Naresh Kaushik, representing NTA, referred to a previous order by the Supreme Court regarding similar allegations. The vacation bench directed NTA to respond while coordinating with the ongoing case headed by Chief Justice of India.

Several other petitions have been filed challenging various aspects of NEET-UG, including the compensatory policy and discrepancies in marking systems.

Government Action:
Amidst the controversy, the Ministry of Education announced the formation of a four-member panel to review the grace marks awarded to over 1,500 students. The committee aims to ensure the integrity of the examination process.

Opposition parties, including the Congress, have raised concerns about the NEET-UG results, questioning the government's ability to conduct fair examinations.

As the NEET-UG controversy unfolds, the Supreme Court's intervention seeks to address the concerns raised by candidates and ensure transparency and fairness in the examination process.
